Peering
Guidelines
Netflix has an open peering policy and actively peers with networks that have end-users viewing Netflix content.
General requirements
- The ISP must be able to interconnect at a Peering Location shared with the Netflix network (AS2906).
- Both parties must provide a 24/7 contact who can escalate critical issues in a timely fashion.
- Both parties are expected to register their routes in a public Internet Routing Registry (IRR) database, for the purpose of filtering. Both parties shall make good faith efforts to keep this information up-to-date.
- Either party may accept or reject peering requests as network management needs require.
- Neither party shall establish a static route, a route of last resort, or otherwise send traffic to the other party for a route not announced via BGP.
- Neither party shall announce to the other the more specific routes of prefixes learned via a third-party transit customer.

Additional private interconnection requirements
- Interconnection(s) should occur in mutual locations with 10G LR or 100G LR4 Ethernet interfaces.
- PNI capacity upgrades should occur in a timely manner to ensure a high end-user quality of experience.

Locations
Why Traceroute Will Mislead You
Connectivity to www.netflix.com is not indicative of connectivity to the Netflix content delivery service. Webpages on www.netflix.com are only served from AWS in the US and Ireland. The best method to investigate reachability is to expand the AS-NFLX IRR object and review those prefixes or alternatively contact peering@netflix.com for assistance.
Peering in Brazil (PTT)
A Netflix (ASN 2906) está no ATM do IX.BR das cidades de São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre e Fortaleza. Temos uma política aberta de peering, anunciando todas as nossas rotas para os route servers (ATM) desta localidades. Anunciamos um pequeno número de prefixos e não existe diferenças entre os prefixos anunciados para os servidores de rota (route servers) e sessões bi-laterais.
Se você é um novo membro no IX.BR, visite a página de participantes e verifique os que possuem a designação de ATM. Isso significa que você já começa trocar tráfego com todos eles com uma única configuração com os route servers. A Netflix prefere as sessões de peering com os route servers do que estabelecer sessões bi-laterais para facilitar e agilizar as ativações. Também recomendamos que os participantes criem registros no https://www.peeringdb.com/ para fornecer visibilidade da suas redes e suas políticas de roteamento.
MEDs
We accept MEDs within a relevant geographical area (example: we will not serve UK content from Atlanta), but we automatically add a MED of 50 to PNI and 100 to IX in addition to the MED you send us. We use MEDs BEFORE geolocation - they will always override our geolocation service. Note that you will only receive prefixes relevant to the region that you interconnect.
Miami/South Florida
In South Florida, Netflix is not present on the NOTA exchange. We highly recommend you join FL-IX - a community-managed non-profit exchange with presences in multiple data centers in the region.
